Essence make up review - part one of two.

Hello!
This post was supposed to go up last week but as you may know,
it's taken me just over a week to fix my blog...
but anyway it's fixed now and today's post is
part one of two of my Essence make up review.
Essence is a brand that recently launched in the UK, I had to order online from
'wilko' due to my local shop not stocking it.
This however was difficult as I had to guess what products would be like
colour wise and there was no swatches!
I did buy these products on a 3 for 2 offer so it ended up being a little cheaper,
despite the products being affordable- you can soon end up paying a lot.
The offer is still on in case you do decide to purchase anything,
I have the products linked below.
These are not affiliate links.

let's jump in..

I got 13 items from this brand so I will be doing 6 today and my next
post will be the last 7 products :)

So the 6 products I will be reviewing today are the 'glossy lip balm', 'long lasting lipstick', 'lash and brow gel mascara', 'tint and care', 'eye sorbet' and 'I love crazy volume mascara'.
 Glossy Lip balm - Mango ice cream - 8ml - £1  - link
So this is what you'd imagine, you're basic peachy lip gloss in a squeeze tube.
I don't like the packaging, it is a little cheap and childish, I prefer a lip gloss with a wand but
at the end of the day this lip gloss costs next to nothing.
I like the colour, it's quite sheer but it does add some colour to the lips, it's not completely pointless.
I however didn't choose this lip gloss over their other lip glosses for the colour bur rather the 'flavour'...mango ice cream? yes please!
This however left me disappointed, it's a kind of plastic tasting/scented but with a mild pina colada sort of scent to it, not at all the delicious mango ice cream that I imagined.
This lip gloss or 'lipbalm' as they call it..does have more of a balmy texture than a sticky, goopy gloss which I like, it's super affordable and has nice colour to it, I just can't shake the taste.

Longlasting Lipstick - 05 dare to be nude - 3.8g - £2.30  - link
This lipstick appears more orangey in the above photo than in real life due to being taken in sunlight, it's slightly more browny-nude.
I wouldn't call this product long lasting, when I think long lasting, I think matte and hours of wear.
This wears off within an hour or two and has a glossy/sheeny finish to it.
It has the typical cheap lipstick smell - plastic.
It's actually a really nice colour with good pigmentation though and that was something I didn't expect, it wasn't streaky or patchy, it didn't drag.
It glides on with no effort and it quite moisturising due to the finish of it, a good one for those dry lip days!
I'd actually like to try out other colours if they had a stand in my local store, for £2.30, I don't expect incredible lasting power but they could of made it smell a little better.

Lash & Brow Gel mascara - Clear - 9 ml - £2  - link
I don't think I've ever had a gel mascara, I've had a brow gel but not a mascara.
Not that it mattered anyway as I do use this for my brows, It's become something I use everyday since I got it, it's not incredible, it's not super strength hold but
It is clear, doesn't leave a film on your eyebrows and it does keep them in place for the most part.
As I'm one for sniffing things I can report that this smells kind of herb like when you first take the wand out of the tube, kind of minty basil? :')  the smell wasn't picked up by my boyfriend so it must not smell once it's dried?
It's just a nice, basic, clear brow gel.
I do really love the packaging on this one for some reason though!

I love crazy volume mascara - black - 12 ml - £2.80 - link
First thing with this mascara.. I found it really difficult to use, It just didn't stick to my lashes and was a chore to use.
It was also quite a dry formula, almost dried out when I received it, maybe I just got a dodgy one?
The brush is really similar to one from maxfactor (I can't remember the name as I've not used it for many years) but it has a big chunky brush head with plastic bristles.
I didn't find I got any volume from the mascara but rather short clumpy lashes.
This is one coat of this mascara after I combed the clumps off...
and here's two coats...
they kind of just came out short and clumpy, I can get them a long longer with a good mascara.
Overall I wasn't impressed.
I also smelt this mascara after being intrigued by the brow gel and this kind of smells like rubber dog toys :') they're interesting scented products.
This mascara did also transfer like crazy onto my face so I won't be buying this again.

Eye Sorbet - 06 illuminating coconut - 3 g - £2.80 - link
Now this I was excited for, cream eye shadows.
I love the maybelline ones but heard rumours of them being discontinued for the new 'leather effect' range, please don't let this be true....
I did wonder why it was called a 'sorbet', it's such a strange texture, to touch it feels wet and cold, kind of sorbet texture funnily enough.
when I tried to build this product up it went chunky and it went all funny in my crease which I don't get with most cream eye shadows so I was annoyed as I really wanted to like it.
However if you take a tiny bit and run it across the lid, it comes out as white/silver shimmer and looks incredible when light hits it.
I have one of those faces that can take a lot of makeup without looking like a lot so this is way too subtle for me, I may use it as an inner corner highlight of something when going out to add some sparkle, I'd say maybe get this if you're new to makeup and just use a tiny bit on your eyelid?
I do love the little tubs that they come in though, for the price I was quite surprised that they are glass!

Glow tinted lip balm - 01 light up - 1.9g - £2.30  - link
Now this I really like, It looks like it'd come out really sheer, especially as it's a 'tinted' lip balm but it actually has a lot of colour to it.
It comes out a bright pinky red colour and is glossy looking yet it isn't sticky and it's balmy feeling.
This is the only product so far that doesn't taste or smell funny, it's kind of sweet/fruity tasting.
I can't believe how pigmented this is, it looks more like a glossy sheer-ish lipstick than a tinted balm, I really want more of these.
The packaging is a little cheap but it's affordable so you can't expect ysl quality.
It comes out a little darker on my lips, as this is swatched on my wrist it appears lighter but on top of actual lip colour it comes across a little darker. So, that was the first six products! you'll have to come back tomorrow to see the rest!have you tried anything from this brand? what are your thoughts?
